Michael M. Baltay

Michael is a partner of Monitor and a founding member of Monitor Innovation, a part of the Monitor Group Company. He has over 15 years of consulting and entrepreneurial experience and is passionate about helping companies grow in new ways. Michael started his career in engineering at Stanford University, managing the construction of experimental stations on behalf of the U.S. DOE. In 1989, he spun off a consulting and engineering company, and in 2000 he co-founded an innovation management consulting business, IMI.

His clients range across nearly every industrial sector with an emphasis in health care, materials, and consumer and industrial products.  He is a specialist in the identification, management and implementation of significant new growth opportunities that typically cut across existing businesses, build upon existing assets and stretch companies into new areas of demand. Client interventions include deep customer insights; strategic planning; technology management; establishment of decision systems, teams and structures to manage across existing boundaries; and new models for accelerating external entrepreneurship and rolling innovations back into operating units.   In addition, Michael draws heavily upon his natural expertise in the strategic management of technology and new product development.

Michael is a published author and was on the visiting faculty at The Arthur D. Little School of Management where he taught on the subject of growth and innovation.  He holds a MS in Management from Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.
